IBM i Administration Print E-mail

The IBM i Administration class will show you how to effectively administer the IBM i operating system (aka iSeries, AS/400), running the system as securely and efficiently as possible. This lab workshop goes beyond basic daily operations tasks, concentrating on security strategies, system backup and recovery plans, advanced problem determination, and other advanced operations topics.

It provides a strategic view of system operations, with an emphasis on security, system availability, and recovery. The class is oriented toward single system administration, but many topics will also apply to the administration of multiple systems.

Who Should Attend
This class is primarily for system administrators, but may also be suitable for system operators and managers.


Prerequisites
In order to successfully complete this course, students should have completed the following courses, or have equivalent knowledge/experience:

  • IBM i Concepts
  • IBM i System Operations

What You Will Accomplish

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Describe the components of IBM i security, such as user profile, group profile, authorization list, adopted authority and how they participate in security
  • Develop a security plan for your installation
  • Describe the facilities available to audit security
  • Choose the IBM i availability products and features appropriate for your installation
  • Describe how to backup and recover user and system information
  • Develop a backup and recovery plan for your installation
  • Describe problem determination procedures
  • Describe how to manage Program Temporary Fixes (PTF)
